Communicator

I started my YouTube channel, YouTooBio, to make the videos I wanted to use in my classes, but which didn’t already exist.

I wanted videos that: include real data from fascinating research studies; are short, funny, and to the point; show live footage of techniques without getting bogged down in the details; and showcase diverse scientists

In 2015 I won the iBiology Young Scientist Series competition and received science communication training from the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science.

I am a self-taught video producer.

Now I teach students how to make science videos, too.

In 2021, I received a Mini-Grant from the Durham Tech Foundation to train 5 community college students to produce high-quality science videos that meet the classroom needs of Science Instructors at Durham Tech.

I consult scientists to help them share their research in scientific, educational, and outreach contexts.

I work one-on-one with research scientists to hone their presentation skills. I review educational video scripts and storyboards for scientific accuracy and clarity. I consult scientists for Broader Impacts outreach projects of NSF-funded grants.

I enjoy applying my scientific and science communication skills to help others share their research!
